Cherrell Green, PhD, serves as the managing director for the Coalition to Advance Public Safety (CAPS), where she provides strategic leadership to a national collaborative focused on community violence intervention (CVI) and prevention. With more than a decade of experience in violence prevention, she has built her career at the intersection of research, practice, and policy to advance community-led solutions to public safety.
Dr. Green’s scholarship centers on the disproportionate impact of gun violence on Black men, with a particular emphasis on the relationship between trauma and the criminal legal system. Specializing in community-based participatory research, her work interrogates the ways trauma responses—especially among Black people—are often misunderstood, misinterpreted, and criminalized, resulting in further harm. Through her research, she seeks to reframe these narratives and create space for healing-centered and equity-driven approaches.
Dr. Green holds a Ph.D. in criminology and criminal justice from the University of Missouri–St. Louis.
