Paul M. Reeping is an associate research scientist at Columbia Mailman School of Public Health and the director of research at Vital City, NYC. He is an epidemiologist by training. Paul was a postdoctoral fellow in the Violence Prevention Research Program (VPRP) at University of California, Davis. He received his PhD from Columbia University, Mailman School of Public Health and his MS in epidemiology from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Reeping’s research focuses broadly on gun violence prevention, and can roughly be split into three categories: the causes and consequences of active mass and school shootings; the prevention of school-based violence; and the impact of gun-free zones and other sensitive-place based policies on gun violence prevention. Before pursuing epidemiology, Reeping was a tenth grade environmental science teacher in Chicago, which serves as an important influence and lens to his current work in gun violence prevention.
