Katie Callahan is a research assistant at the University of Washington Tacoma’s Violence Prevention and Transformation Research Collaborative. She graduated summa cum laude from the University of Washington-Tacoma, where she received the President’s Medal for her distinguished academic achievement and community engagement. While at UW, she was a member of Alpha Phi Sigma Honor Society and president of the Criminal Justice League. She has participated in panel presentations and led roundtable discussions at the annual conferences of the American Society of Criminology and Western Society of Criminology. Her work has been published in Crime, Media, Culture, with several other manuscripts under review for publication. Her research interests include precipitating factors such as culture, capitalism, and masculinity on mass shooter motivations; law enforcement and community relationships; and the school-to-prison/learning disability-to-prison pipelines. She is currently pursuing a graduate degree in criminology, law, and society at the University of California, Irvine.
