Nathaniel Schutten is a PhD candidate in the School of Criminal Justice at the University at Albany and a lecturer in the Department of Criminal Justice at SUNY Plattsburgh. His research focuses on understanding the social determinants of gun ownership and gun attitudes, as well as their political implications. His secondary research interests include public opinion on punishment, criminal justice policy, and decarceration. Schutten primarily employs quantitative research methods, including surveys and survey experiments. His research has been published in peer-reviewed journals including, Criminology and Justice Quarterly.
