Research Assistant, Regional Gun Violence Research Consortium

Alexandra Steves is a research assistant for the Regional Gun Violence Research Consortium at the Rockefeller Institute of Government and a student of history at the State University of New York (SUNY) at Albany. Her role involves assisting the investigators on the Sharing Information to Stop Mass Shooters (SISMS) research project, which analyzes the leakage and warning behaviors displayed by perpetrators preceding mass shooting events. She also provides support to the Consortium’s executive director and membership. Broadly speaking, Steves’s research focuses on understanding how policymaking contributes to changes in gun violence and fostering safer communities across the United States. Her work aims to prevent future tragedies by improving the development of public awareness training programs and educating bystanders on what actions to take upon witnessing leakage and warning behaviors. She is interested in the chronological progression of state law and policy as data and information are released to the public and policymakers alike.
