Panel Will Follow Presentation by Authors of Medicaid Buy-In: Questions of Purpose and Design
Albany, NY — Senior policymakers and healthcare leaders have joined the Rockefeller Institute’s Medicaid for More panel on Monday, February 25, which will follow a presentation by the authors of Medicaid Buy-In: Questions of Purpose and Design.
Access to quality and affordable healthcare was one of the top issues of the 2018 elections. An amended version of the New York Health Act — a single-payer proposal — that was recently introduced in Albany continues to garner a lot of attention.
Another proposal offered at both the state and national levels would allow individuals to “buy in” to the large existing public programs of Medicaid and Medicare. The Rockefeller Institute of Government recently published a report identifying and describing the key issues that should be considered in evaluating a Medicaid buy-in proposal. Many of these considerations apply to Medicare and single-payer proposals as well.
Report authors John Kaelin, visiting fellow at the Rockefeller Institute of Government, and Katherine Hempstead, senior policy adviser at the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, will present their findings at the Rockefeller Institute event, followed by a panel discussion and Q&A session.
The panelists include:
Amir Bassiri, senior policy advisor for health to Governor Andrew M. Cuomo
Lev Ginsburg, senior director of government affairs at the Business Council of New York State, Inc.
Courtney Burke, chief operating & innovation officer at the Healthcare Association of New York State (HANYS)
Lara Kassel, coordinator at Medicaid Matters NY
Dan Meuse, deputy director of State Health and Value Strategies at Princeton University
The forum will take place February 25 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the Rockefeller Institute of Government, 411 State Street, Albany, NY 12203.
There are still some seats available for the event. If you are interested in attending, please RSVP to Michele Charbonneau at [email protected].
