Dr. Katherine Reid is an assistant professor of intelligence and security Studies in the Department of Criminal Justice and Security Studies at the University of Texas at El Paso. She earned her PhD in public administration from Florida State University’s Askew School of Public Administration and Policy, where her dissertation examined incel ideology and policy responses to radicalization and deradicalization. Dr. Reid’s research focuses on violent extremism, radicalization, and terrorist armament culture, with particular attention to online extremist networks.
Her recent work focuses on weapons inscription as an emerging phenomenon in contemporary terrorism, documenting how perpetrators embed propaganda directly onto firearms. She is also committed to advancing open-source intelligence methodologies, having helped lead Florida State University’s Disaster Intelligence Analysis Laboratory, where she supervised students in applied OSINT collection and analysis in support of public safety stakeholders. Her work has appeared in the Journal for Deradicalization, Journal of Gender Studies, and Deviant Behavior. Dr. Reid has presented her research internationally and has delivered briefings to law enforcement agencies.
