Rockefeller Institute Researchers to Discuss Opioid Crisis at Conference in Syracuse

Event Continues the Institute’s Statewide Forum Series Addressing the Growing Opioid Epidemic and Strategies to Combat It

Albany, NY — Rockefeller Institute of Government President Jim Malatras and Assistant Director for Policy and Research Katie Zuber will discuss the Institute’s ongoing research on the opioid epidemic in rural New York as keynote speakers at the annual conference of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Providers of New York State (ASAP) on Tuesday, September 25, in Syracuse.

The session continues the Institute’s forum series addressing the opioid epidemic, launched in June with a town hall at the Rockefeller Institute focused on community-based strategies for combating the crisis. The forums build on the Institute’s ongoing “Stories from Sullivan” research project, which delves into the causes of and responses to the opioid epidemic in rural Sullivan County, New York. You can follow the research in real time at rockinst.org/stories-from-sullivan.

The four-day ASAP conference will also feature Sam Quinones, former Los Angeles Times reporter and best-selling author of Dreamland: The True Tale of America’s Opiate Epidemic. It is expected to draw more than 500 prevention, treatment, and recovery experts. View a full conference schedule here.

The speakers will be available for interviews following their presentations.
