SPEAKERS, PANELISTS, AND KEYNOTE ADDRESS






The day was started by Courtney Burke, New York State Deputy Secretary for Health and Dr. Guthrie (Gus) Birkhead, Deputy Commissioner of the Office of Public Health discussing open and big data trends and how they relate to New York State’s Prevention Agenda. Tania Allard, Director of Health Data NY gave a tour of the Health Data NY portal, the first U.S. open data site devoted solely to state health data. Dr. Nirav Shah, Commissioner, NYS DOH and recipient of the first “Data Liberator” prize from the Health Data Consortium, delivered the lunchtime keynote highlighting the benefits of opening data in New York. The closing panel considered how open data provides new opportunities for health researchers and state government to collaborate, and featured Dr. James Knickman, President of the New York State Health Foundation, Dr. Hao Wang, Chief Information Officer for SUNY, Dr. Thomas Gais, Director of the Rockefeller Institute of Government, and Dr. Theresa Pardo, Director of the Center for Technology in Government.
